On the road a bit late this morning as we try to sort out paperwork regarding Therese's fall. Warm morning with the temperature expected to reach 29 degrees C.
It was getting above 25 degrees by the time we got to Niagara Falls, and we felt it as we did a few laps of the block to get a parking place. Almost as expensive as parking a car in Brisbane, bikes are cheap in Brisbane though. No distinction over here, especially with tolls, we are just another auto.
If you aren't aware, Niagara Falls is actually made up of three falls, the American and Bridal Veil falls on the USA side of the border and the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side. The three falls have a combined flow rate which is the highest in the world for falls with a height of more that 50 metres. Average flow rate is 2,400 cubic meters per second, that's a lot of water.
The boat trip takes you past the American and Bridal Falls then well into the Horseshoe Falls. With the volume of water coming over these falls and a height of 57 metres, anything getting too close would just be swamped. Just being where we were feels like your socks probably do in the washing machine. You are only able to see part of the falls, the rest is hidden by the spray from the falling water. Definitely an experience not to be missed. Again, pictures don't convey the feeling and I had some problems with the sun with the GoPro. Too wet for the other camera.
From Niagara Falls we headed back to the USA and south past Buffalo then east through Batavia the south-east through Pavilion and into Leicester where we found a park with a Soldiers Memorial erected in 1910 to the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil war. From there and back onto the expressway where there was a complete rest area. These appear to be primarily aimed at truck drivers, not car drivers, or motorcyclists.
It was just a matter of continuing south-east to Apalachin where we are spending the night. Dinner at a traditional style diner and the meals were absolutely top notch, but large.
Should be an early night tonight for a change, need to catch up a bit.
Just a further note on the semi-trailer issue of yesterday, we saw one this morning with seven axles under the trailer.
